Student Council

Student Council is a group of 20 students who work to make their school and community a better place. Two students from each third and fourth grade room are elected to Council by their classmates. These students must be willing to give their time and energy to Council projects and be student leaders in the school. Student Council members visit Whitehouse Country Manor. They collect canned food for the hungry and have fundraisers for school improvement projects. They help organize spirit day themes. Members also help to plan Red Ribbon week activities as well as Earth Week activities. Student Council helps around the school when needed, and members set a good example for proper behavior in the school and community.

Additional Opportunites

Math Stars:

Whitehouse Primary students will once again work hard to be Math Stars.  Our Math Stars program is focused on stressing mastery of developmentally appropriate basic math concepts.  Teachers at each grade level have identified four unique math fact benchmarks that children at their level should attain.  At varying times throughout the school year students who show mastery at these four goals will be recognized for their accomplishment.  Students receive prizes for attaining each Math Stars goal.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader

AR stands for Accelerated Reader. Accelerated Reader is a computer program that assesses what a child has remembered from what they read. Many of the teachers in the building establish quarterly reading goals for their students and students work toward those goals by correctly answering questions on AR quizzes. Every time the children come to the library they have the opportunity to check out books with an AR label on the spine. These books are tagged by their difficulty so that each child may select books at his/her reading level.  AR books are available in the library. Many are also available in classrooms.

Whitehouse Students have the ability to take AR quizzes on any book in the AR quiz library.  Over 100,000 books have AR quizzes.  If you want to create a list of books appropriate for your child to take with you to the library, simply follow these steps:

  1. Click the Quick Search tab and type the author’s name, a topic, or a book title.
Click the Advanced Search tab for expanded search options. Your search results will provide details about each book

  2. Click the Add to AR Bookbag icon next to each book to you are interested in to add the title to your virtual book bag.  Click the Remove from AR BookBag icon to remove it.

  3. Click AR Bookbag to see a list of your selections

  4. Click Print to view the list in an Adobe Reader window. Then click the printer icon to print your book bag list to take to your library or bookstore.

Parents have the ability to access the entire AR book library, and to see how their child is doing toward reaching their AR goals. Children are assigned individual user names and passwords. If you have not received your child’s user name and password, please contact your child’s teacher.
